The Manchester Central Foodbank was established 3 years ago by the Manchester Universities’ Catholic Chaplaincy and students from the University of Manchester. It is now one of the busiest foodbanks in Manchester serving over 1,700 food parcels each year to local people in crisis.
The foodbank works on a referral basis through which, vouchers are provided to local front-line agencies (charities, hospitals etc.) who in turn, issue them to clients in need. Vouchers are then exchanged at weekday foodbank sessions by clients for a 3-day emergency food parcel.
